Talk title: Mechanical Compression Altitude Control and Elevated Temperature Balloon Technology for Venus
Time: November 16, 2023, 2pm Pacific
Abstract: The Venus science community desires aerobot access to below the Venus cloud deck. However, access to 40 km altitude, for example, presents numerous significant hurdles for vehicle design, most notably a high 145°C operational environment. This seminar describes Thin Red Line’s most recent advances in enabling sub-cloud layer access on Venus through development of several aerial vehicle technologies such as altitude control through mechanical compression and extreme temperature flexible and impermeable gas barrier membranes.
