Hi everyone,

Attached is a summary of the recent VEXAG Steering Committee meeting. These notes will also be posted on the VEXAG website.

Don’t forget to submit your abstracts to the Venus sessions at the GSA and AGU Fall Meetings!! Abstracts for GSA are due next week on July 25 while AGU abstracts are due August 2.

VEXAG steering committee meeting

Monday, July 10, 4pm Eastern

1. Worked on changes to the VEXAG organizational documents, including the VEXAG code of conduct and the steering committee term of service. Changes will be made to the website to reflect these updates.

2. Headquarters inquired into VEXAG technology goals. The VEXAG strategic documents are due for revision. This effort will be initiated at the yearly VEXAG meeting in October.

3. While no R&A funding program has been dedicated for Venus science, Magellan data has been added to the list of datasets that can be proposed to the Discovery Data Analysis Program. This means that Venus research can now be proposed to DDAP. In addition, citizen science programs have extra funding that may be diverted to Venus citizen science projects. Please contact Nick Lang to discuss further.

4. There will be Venus sessions at the GSA (abstracts due July 25) and AGU (abstracts due August 2) fall meetings. In addition, there is the LPI Venus Initiative meeting, “Venus as a System” in November (no abstract due date yet).

5. Discussion of additional topics to be brought to future meetings, including field work, early career researchers, outreach at the yearly meeting, etc.

6. VEXAG is now seeking specialists as well as generalists to self-nominate to become steering committee members. Keep an eye out for the self-nomination announcement in coming months.

7. Discussion of how many Venus Science nuggets are being submitted to NASA HQ.

8. Natasha Johnson and Stephen Kane are rotating off the VEXAG Steering Committee. Thank you for your service!
