Hello Venusians!
With the government shutdown dragging on, VEXAG considered delaying our annual meeting to allow our NASA colleagues to attend and present. However, delaying ended up being a non-viable option, due to high cancellation costs from the convention center. VEXAG is therefore still being held in Niagara Falls on November 5-7th, but with some potential changes to the agenda, since there wouldn’t be any presentations from NASA. Assuming that the government is open in February, we will be holding a second, completely virtual VEXAG meeting to share the NASA HQ presentations and the mission briefs to HQ.
If the shutdown continues into November, expect all presentation to be moved to Thursday and Friday, with Wednesday being reserved for optional field trips to the Falls, local sites of interesting geology, and/or a nearby winery.
In the absence of NASA HQ representatives, the thrust of the meeting will become early career mentoring and science/technology presentations. To that end, if you have a Venus-related poster from another meeting (such as EPSC, GSA or AGU), please bring it with you so that it can be part of our Thursday poster session!
And remember, we are looking for volunteers to be mentors as part of our Early Career Speed Networking event. If you're interested in taking part as mentor or mentee, please sign up at the weblink below.
