Hi all
Great news! Alex and I discussed next steps today and here is where we netted out.
I’m ok with Michael’s layout and don’t think we need the additional dust collection he suggested. In fact, dust collection is of little value when turning. Chips are more easily collected by sweeping and vacuuming. The real danger is with fine dust that is created when sanding which is why I would recommend air filtration above the lathes to be turned on when sanding.
To get the new lathe installed will take a matter of sequential steps as follows:
Find a place for the tools in the drawers of the current sanding bench
Remove the bench to parts unknown. Neil is considering repurposing it for the metal shops.
Set up an area next to where the levels and other long rules are hanging. One solution is to install a platform perpendicular to the tool wall and current cabinets. There is enough room to stand while sanding projects with your back to the levels and facing the drill press. We just need some kind of platform or small table/bench to sit in that space for sanding projects.
Move the sanding equipment to that space
Move the current lathe along with the cabinet it sits on toward the door. Before putting it in its place we need to bring the new lathe to its place parallel to the wall by the air hose
Shift the current lathe in its new footprint with the wall aligned with the door frame and perpendicular to the door to woodworking 2 room
Install the new lathe.
Plug in new lathe and Bob’s your uncle!
Let me know your thoughts/suggestions so we can get start planning on next steps.
