Review meeting minutes and items from previous meeting
Cutting mats added to one of moving tables has been working well. Will revisit need for more cutting mats if issues present themselves.
Rae dropped at Merri Stitches - still waiting for them to be sharpened. Found rotary blade sharpener in shop area. Possibility to buy scissor sharpener - Wamery 4-stage Knife & Scissors sharpener.
Excess fabric has been taken out of shop area - excess fabric will be used for the costume build night this week.
Agreed to move forward with installing hooks and make personal storage area. Lee will find hooks and to install them.
Layout and arrangement of space and tables as currently laid out has been working well. Rae and Lee will create a map of “zero positions” that will get posted on the wall by white board for members to reference - will include table positions and storage areas for all project items included in the lab. This will be updated as needed.
Babylock coverstitch machine update - it is ready to be picked up and purchased. Rae is going to facilitate the sale, currently estimated at $400. Transaction will be facilitated via a Square account.
Machine maintenance, Ken overlock needs repair - Merri Stitches offers free evaluations. Rae can bring in to get evaluated.
Action plan for spinning wheel - We had a tutorial on the spinning wheel this week. The spinning wheel needs to be oiled - Alex will pick up oil and Peter will apply the oil to the spinning wheel. Wendy Booth, who gave the tutorial, recommends a second spinning wheel for classes so participants can follow the instructor. This currently is impractical. Peter’s recommends incorporating a spinning wheel demonstration with Makerspace stitches to garner attention and interest. Alex will follow up with Wendy and invite her to the Makerspace stitches events.
Makerspace stitches and incorporating with Textiles lab
Print flyer for next Makerspace Stitches evening (November 17) and post in Textiles lab area.
Lee will attend the next Makerspace Stitches evening to make introductions to those in attendance and share updates for the space.
Installing full length mirror for fitting clothing and making alterations. Lee will find one to install. Alex has a 5’ mirror that we will install. Rae and Alex will find a place to install.
Warming Tree event/series - Rae would like to organize sewing evenings to make warm weather clothing for those in need. Rae will produce a plan and present at the next meeting. Possibility to connect this with Makerspace stitches.
Thanks,
Lee
