I'll be moving tomorrow's meeting up to 11:30 am instead of 1 pm. Pizza will be available.

Textiles Lab Meeting Notes

September 16, 2023

 

Attendance: Lee Miler, Alex Nunn, Peter Boyd, Tricia Mansfield, and Rae Strand

 

Name Change implementation process:  Tricia to laser cut letter “Textiles Lab” in Dyno Font for signage by 9/20 Peter to hang the sign. Alex to update digital content and marketing material before next meeting and follow up with announcements

Lee to reach out to Liam to Hang additional Shop lights and distribute as evenly as possible – on the weekend of September 30th and installing the heater. 

Discussion on making designated wet spaces for screen printing dying and spray glue for embroidery machine and designated dry tables for cutting. Rae and Lee will meet during the month to rearrange things.

1.     Need to establish cutting area with tables that people can walk around completely. Possibly add cutting surfaces to rolling table tops.

2.     Rae discussed need for sharp fabric scissors for classes and reliable pinking shears for classes. Need to purchase rotary cutter blade replacements. Rotary blade disposal? Merry stitches off Mirona Road offers scissors sharpening. Rae will drop off three pairs of scissors for sharpening. Need more pairs of fabric scissors.

3.     Put bins of fabrics in classroom for a week and Tricia to take rest to Exeter donation site in 2 weeks when she returns from her trip.

4.     Set up area for personal item storage to allow for ways to accommodate multiple people working at the same time such as installing hooks for hanging totes and personal items. This will be revisited at the next meeting. Working on establishing long term zero positions. 

5.     Discussed purchase a Baby Lock Evolution coverstitch machine ($400.00) Ten years old, fully functional with some cosmetic defects. Coverstitch machines are used to create professional hems, necklines on t-shirts and durable seams on pants (i.e. Carhartt work pants) and are integral to modern apparel production. 

6.     Rae and Lee to look over the Juki and serger for basic maintenance.

7.     Make an action plan for the spinning wheel a priority at the next meeting.

8.     Revisit Makerspace Stitches, and creating integration with the Textiles Lab.
