Hi Wood Shop folks,

I posted in Slack about this update, but here it is as well in case ya'll haven't checked.

The big Jet dust collector is down. Turning it on causes it to make some rough noises as it tries to spin up, and then it trips the circuit breaker. We can't run the planer or jointer right now while this is broken.

I have diagnosed the issue: there is a part inside the motor called a Centrifugal Switch that has failed. Dust got inside the motor housing, got between the contacts of the switch, and caused it to get covered with burnt gunk and overheat until it melted the contact.

We need help acquiring a new part for this, and given our experience with the drill press I don't expect the company is going to be of much help. I did leave them a message though. I also left a message with Fay Electric Motor repair in Somersworth to see if they could help source a part.

I am sharing this info with ya'll so that if you know anyone that could help acquire this part you may forward this along to them. Below are the details of our machine and the motor itself.
Attached are photos of the issue, and what a new part looks like.

Brand: Jet
Model: 717530K
Serial: 20093885

Motor: TC 11897
Volt: 230
Amp: 13
kW: 2.2

Issue: Centrifugal switch in motor is fried
Solution: Replace switch with a compatible one.

Update:
I actually found it on their website: https://jettools.com/jcdc3-01cs

I went ahead and ordered it, but this message pops up on their site:
"WE DON'T HAVE AS MANY QUANTITY AS YOU REQUESTED, BUT WE'LL BACK ORDER THE REMAINING 1 AFTER 2022-11-02"

So, not sure what that means in terms of timeline, but I think we still need to look for other ways to source this part.

Update: The Dust Collector is alive!
AAA Pump Service (aka Fay Electric Motor) had an equivalent part that matched the one we used. It took a couple modifications to fit, but it's in and operating!

The original part from Jet is still on backorder, and when that comes in I will swap it out. This part will work for now, but it looks like the other part of the switch is a little distorted, probably from overheating, so that ought to get swapped out eventually.

The Jet Dust Collector is up and running!
Major kudos and thank you to Alex.
In record time he diagnosed the problem, sourced a hard-to-get part and repaired the machine!
Without the Jet, two of the harder working machines - the jointer and planer - would have been out of service.

Thanks again and congratulations for a job well done.

I think this effort tops his previous accomplishment which was to get the road paving people to fill in the sink hole in the upper parking lot.  Great jog Alex!  A regulate MacGyver
