Hi Wood Shop folks,
I posted in Slack about this update, but here it is as well in case ya'll haven't checked.
The big Jet dust collector is down. Turning it on causes it to make some rough noises as it tries to spin up, and then it trips the circuit breaker. We can't run the planer or jointer right now while this is broken.
I have diagnosed the issue: there is a part inside the motor called a Centrifugal Switch that has failed. Dust got inside the motor housing, got between the contacts of the switch, and caused it to get covered with burnt gunk and overheat until it melted the contact.
We need help acquiring a new part for this, and given our experience with the drill press I don't expect the company is going to be of much help. I did leave them a message though. I also left a message with Fay Electric Motor repair in Somersworth to see if they could help source a part.
I am sharing this info with ya'll so that if you know anyone that could help acquire this part you may forward this along to them. Below are the details of our machine and the motor itself.
Attached are photos of the issue, and what a new part looks like.
