By Travis Thurston, Faculty Development Coordinator, USU
When we in the Center for Innovative Design & Instruction were tasked with taking on the faculty development offering for USU it felt a bit daunting. Truthfully, our initial operations felt more like trying to keep our head above water than providing intentional teaching improvement opportunities for our faculty.
However, as I got my feet wet (and didn't drown in the process) I began digging into the literature on faculty development, attended my first POD Network conference, and visited the CTL at Boise State to learn how to create faculty development programming that was intentional, connected, and that would truly provide the opportunity for our faculty to improve their teaching.
I was empowered to create a digital badging program that would not only tie all of our faculty development offerings together, but also provided the environment for faculty to become motivated in improving their teaching and buoy the culture of teaching excellence at USU.
