Hey Paddlers - Please see the info below and attached from Bellingham Bay regarding their race on 8/24. PLEASE be communicative early with BBOP if you need a chase boat for the 9-man change race. Also, please note the Aquatic Invasive Species requirements that we have here in Whatcom County for all craft that will be utilized on Lake Whatcom. Thanks!

Good morning Tyler,
Please share this information about our upcoming race event with the PNWORCA membership.

BBOP is excited to share the details of our race event on Saturday, August 24th at Lake Whatcom. You'll find something for everyone among 4 race formats (iron, change-out, small boat, and short course). The weather and the water will be warm, and you'll also enjoy a nice selection of vendors, games, Hawaiian plate lunch, and the beer garden! Registration and timing is provided by Pacific Multisports. The details are in the attached race flyer, but here's our tentative schedule:

 ·       7:30 am: Canoe inspection and rigging

·       8:30 am: Escort boat crew meeting

·       9:00 am: Pule; Safety and morning Steers’ meeting

·       9:30 am: OC6 Women’s and Mixed iron race start

·       9:40 am: OC6 Change race start

·       10:00 am: Small boat start

·       11:30 am: Beer Garden opens

·       11:30 am: Lunch service begins

·       11:30 am: Steers’ meeting for afternoon races

·       Approx. 12:00 pm: Men’s OC6 iron race start

·       Approx. 12:30pm: Short course race start

·       Approx. 2:30 pm: Awards

Important LOGISTICS:

·       Vessel permits and on-site aquatic invasive species (AIS) inspections are required for all boats launching at Lake Whatcom. To speed up the process and get your free day-use permit you must take the online course and show your certificate at the inspection tent.

o   AIS Awareness course

·       Each escort boat operator, change manager, and other escort boat personnel must register online. Please read, understand, and sign the waiver available at

o   https://form.jotform.com/241677438632060

·       If you need assistance in borrowing an OC6, you must contact BBOP at eat_veg...@hotmail.com.  While BBOP will do our best to accommodate your request, specific canoe types are not guaranteed.

·       BBOP is actively looking for local escort boats, but we encourage clubs to recruit their own escort boat and crew. It is customary for racing crews to reimburse boat owners for the cost of fuel and other expenses. Please contact the Race Director for information about available escort boats.

Contact the Race Director with any questions at jan...@squelch.net or 360-739-5776.
We look forward to hosting you!
Janice
