2026 Uncle Manu K Baker Regatta at Spanaway Lake

Aloha PNWORCA Clubs and Coaches,

 

Hope and pray all is well with you and your Ohana.

 

This year is the 2026 IVF World Sprints at Singapore in August.  So our qualified crews once again will be using these sprint races to race and fine tune their crews for WS.

 

We will only be using our own Spec OC6s for all 4 Sprint Regatta's.  No OC6  Hydra's will be on site to use.

 

At Uncle Manu Baker Regatta, we will only be doing straight away 500 meters for all age divisions V1/OC1 events and for OC6 events that will have World Sprint crews entered. So please note on your pre-registration WS in front of your crew entered. 

 

For Example:

Event #2 Open Men - Entered Race Column - WS-2 Kikaha (World Sprint - 2 entries)

Event #11 Kupuna Master Women - Entered Race Column - WS-1 Kikaha (World Sprint - 1 entry)

Event Insert V1 Open Women - Entered Race Column - WS-1 Jane Doe (World Sprint - 1 entry}

 

For Multiple entries - Best to send Names and event entries for World Sprint V1 

Please write your names for all entries for V1 racers and age division racing

 

Paddlers that don't have a V1 can use their own OC1 to race to fill out lanes and just race.  You can race as many V1/OC1 events and go in your age division and go in other not your age events unofficially to just get a time. 

Non WS 500 meter OC6 Events will be run on the 250-meter course with 1 turn.

 

Note: There is changes to some event #'s to the Pre-Registration Form and we renamed all V1/OC1 events as Event Inserts.

 

We will once again have a huge Raffle Prize tent with lot's of prizes - this is our fundraiser portion.  So more information as to what prizes are being offered will sent out soon.

 

Providing the Food and Goodies as always will be Hilo's own "Cafe Ohana Grillin and Catering" Ono Plate Lunches and Poke Bowls.  So no need to make potluck.  Support Washington. Local Businesses.

 

Attached is our Pre-Registration Form that needs to be filled in and sent back to me one week (May 9th) before the race at bo...@comcast.net. 

 

Race Information, Race Registration Form per crew/paddler and Paddlesport Insurance Waiver (both forms filled out before arriving on race day) is attached to this email.

 

There is also a Uncle Manu Baker Regatta Flyer attached to this email.  Please spread the word to your club members.

 

Mahalo to Hui Heihei Wa'a, Hui Wa'a O Puget Sound and Hui Wa'a O Wakinikona for towing canoes to this race.

Happy Aloha Friday Ho'e Wa'a Ohana,

 

Pre-registration for Uncle Manu Regatta has started coming in and I wanted to send out an Updated Pre-Reg Form with some examples of inputted entries.  

Note WS - World Sprint Entry --- UO - Unofficial Entry also enter # of entries if you have more then 1 entry for that event. Please use this Updated attached form.

 

Also, because Cafe Ohana is providing freshly made plate lunches, they would love to have an number of paddlers you intend to participate on May 16th so that they have enough food to offer.  So no need to potluck ok.  Cafe Ohana always puts out a variety of Ono plate lunches and bowls.

 

So please send in your Pre-Reg with the updated Pre-Reg form and lets confirm the number of canoes you can bring on race day.  We need a total of 8 Spec Canoes.

Finally got everyone's Pre-Registration and hopefully I got all of your entries.

 

Please look over all events and make sure I have you inputted correctly.

 

This is the 1st Draft so no worries if we need to add or delete entries.

 

I'll give everyone at least 24 hours to make changes and then I'll send out Final Draft by tomorrow night.

Mahalo for all of the quick response and catching all of my errors. 

 

Attached is the 2nd draft for this weekend race at Spanaway.  Please look over and let me know if we need to make any changes, so please don't print out yet.

 

Also, Big Mahalo to our 4 Sprint Host Clubs - Hui Wa'a O Wakinikona, Hui Heihei Wa'a, Hui Wa'a O Puget Sound and Kikaha O Ke Kai Outrigger Canoe Club for towing canoes and letting us use them for Uncle Manu's Regatta.  So please help them off load and load on after the last race.

 

Please respect the club's canoes by asking the clubs coaches for using them before taking them out.  Also, let's use the whole beach area to load and unload paddlers for each event, please relay this message to your steersmans.

 

Cafe Ohana and now Mauka Shave Ice will be there for your food and refreshments during the day. So no need to make potluck please support local businesses.

 

Also, Kikaha will have a raffle giveaway as always and some of the high-ticket items will be a Brand new IHE Paddle and a Hotel Stay with Dinner included, plus many more gift baskets and awesome items.

 

Again look over the days events and make sure everything looks ok.

Attached is this weekend's Lane Assignments for Uncle Manu's Regatta.

 

Much Mahalo for all of the communications and patience for our Singapore IVF World Sprints Coaches and Paddlers that needed to make this 1st regatta lined for the next 3 Sprint races.

 

Again, if you need any changes, please let me know.  Other than that this Schedule of Events can be printed for you and your paddlers to reference their positions to be ready to load up.

 

Talking about loading up -  V1/OC1 paddler/OC6 paddlers and being on the starting line on time:

 

1. Be ready to load at least 2 events before your race

 

2. Be ready to line up after each 500-meter race event with your

V1/OC1 or OC6 event (piggy back after the previous event)

 

3. Listen to announcements as 1st call, 2nd call and Final call.

 

Also, please be sure to register each of your crew so we know you didn't delete or add a crew.  Too many confusions of how many canoes is racing in each event.

 

Again, Kokua to off load and on load canoes for the Clubs that is towing canoes for everyone to use; Hui Heihei Wa'a, Hui Wa'a O Wakinikona, Hui Wa'a O Puget Sound and Kikaha O Ke Kai OCC - Mahalo Nui Loa to our Hui Wa'a!

 

But the most important thing here - Is the have fun and enjoy the day!

Had to update the lane assignments which should not affect anyone.

 

Just a few things I changed for 12 and Under Girls and Boys combined with the 19 and Under Girls and Boys with a note but mainly scratched a bunch of entries.

 

If you already printed your lane assignments you can actually X out in those blank lanes.

The weather did stay dry for us but the cold winds did have a factor in our races.

 

Lot's of heats on this years race and we almost got done with all 67 events but the last 5 events we had called it because possible lightning, thunder was on its way and we ran past 5pm which is the longest ever day for Uncle Manu's Regatta.

 

Other then that the races was running as fast as we could and tried to keep the down time limited but it seem as though everyone was having fun competing! 

 

Again Much Mahalo for the Clubs that tow canoes for all of us to use: Hui Heihei Wa'a, Hui Wa;a O Wakinikona, Hui Wa'a O Puget Sound and Kikaha O Ke Kai Outrigger Canoe Club - Mahalo, Mahalo, Mahalo Nui Loa!

 

Also , much Mahalo to our Timers and Officials yesterday!  Also, Mahalo to our Kikaha Ohana that has put a lot of time and efforts in making this years Regatta awesome.

 

Can't forget Cafe Ohana Ono Plate Lunches and Poke Bowls.  Plus our new vendor Mauka Shave Ice.

 

But most of all we have to thank all of the Clubs that came and represent your Club.  Yes I seen you and I really couldn't talk story but our Hearts was filled with your presence!
