Call to Action
Dear Valued FCPCS Members,
This is a CALL TO ACTION. Charter School funding is in danger and we need your help.
The Florida Legislature is in Special Session right now. Members of the House and Senate are about to begin budget conference meetings this weekend to work out differences between their two budget proposals.
Charter school funding is in danger
The House budget currently funds Facilities Capital Outlay for public charter schools at $100 million. The current Senate budget allocation for Facilities Capital Outlay for public charter schools is ZERO.
You have the power to change this funding inequity.
Take immediate action
Call or email your State Representative and Senator and tell them that your child and the charter school they attend needs their support.zImportant:
Be professional and courteous when you communicate your message. Use the messages below as your guide:
HOUSE MESSAGE:
We are very grateful for the generous $100 million included in the budget funding Facilities Capital Outlay for Florida’s public charter schools. We hope you will hold firm on the $100 million appropriation so that Florida public charter schools can continue to provide safe and secure educational facilities for the close to 300,000 K-12 students they serve.
SENATE MESSAGE:
Florida’s public charter schools do not have access to facilities capital funding in the same manner as district-run public schools. The House has appropriated $100 million for Facilities Capital Outlay for Florida’s public charter schools and the students they serve. I strongly encourage you and your colleagues add the $100 million for public charter school’s Facilities Capital Outlay so that charter schools can continue to provide safe and secure educational facilities for the close to 300,000 K-12 students they serve.
Please forward this information to your parents and any other group that might advocate on behalf of charter schools.
ASK THEM to CALL OR EMAIL THEIR LEGISLATORS IMMEDIATELY.
