Hi all,

PHP TestFest 2017 has ended a while ago, and I was wondering what the next steps were.

Are there any plans yet to merge the pull requests into https://github.com/php/php-src?

Hi

I am also very interested about the next steps, all the PHP user groups did a great work in TestFest!

I have no good excuses for why I've failed to follow up on this. My goal was to host an awards webinar in February.

Right now, I need to follow up with all those who were interested in sponsoring and see if they're still interested in providing prizes. After that, I can schedule an awards ceremony and event wrap-up webinar that everyone can join. I'll want a few to share their experiences with PHP TestFest at this online event. Finally, I'll be using that event to turn over the management of PHP TestFest to volunteers, so the responsibility for the next event doesn't rest squarely on me. :-)

PHP TestFest was a huge success, and I'm sorry I've failed to deliver on the post-event closing ceremonies.

Cheers,
Ben

The truth is that I failed on getting the sponsors lined up for this. I had hoped to hold a “raffle” for prizes and award one or two big prizes to those who the judges thought provided exceptional submissions, but I wasn’t able to get the prizes all together, and that’s what’s been the hold-up.

Maybe the best course of action is to have a “wrap-up” webinar meeting where we acknowledge everyone who put in a lot of hard work to participate, and then get these PRs merged in and get them into the upstream php-src repo. There won’t be any prizes, but we can at least close the loop on this.

Thoughts?

Dear Royopa,

we have well received your email.

For PRs, I believe it is best to address this directly on the github issue tracker of php-src and tag the relevant person concerned.
The PR is not dependent on the PHP Test Fest management, but on the (core)contributors of PHP.

Have a good day,
Khayrattee

Hi Ben,

Our usergroup wasn't really into PHPTestFest for the prizes. Most of us had a good time writing tests together and are looking forward to having our approved pull requests merged.

I personally loved getting back into the PHPTestFest mood and help attendees getting started with writing tests, but the reward for me is having code merged into php-src :).

I agree with you Ben.

This way we can end the phptestfest2017 and we can help the communities to start phptestfest2018 prep.

Royopa

Royopa,

This sounds great.

Can someone put together a table “leaderboard” that lists everyone who participated, with number of PRs submitted (and the PR IDs) and the group the user belongs to (if available)?

Can someone also put together another table leaderboard that lists each group and the number of PRs submitted for each group, along with the number of individual contributors from each group?

These can just be Google Sheets for now. We can convert them to HTML and add them to the phptestfest.org website later.

I will work on setting up a date/time to have an online meeting as a sort of “closing ceremony” that everyone is invited to join. I already have a provider for this, so no need to volunteer anyone’s webinar account.

Thanks,
Ben

Here's a Google Sheet that shows the PRs and who submitted them. No groups, yet. I am using the Google Docs app plugin for Github and this is all it gives me. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/17lnjueQx2LouoIopPnzUK5Q2p3SdqnPcv3_ykQ9rIBU/edit?usp=sharing

Bah. That spreadsheet is useless other than for sorting by name and getting an idea for whom among all has submitted the most (Royopa, woo hoo!).

Thanks Mark Niebergall for editing the spreadsheet so that it shows what we're looking for! Mark added the "Groups" column to the "Pull Requests" tab and added the totals per user and UG to the "Totals" tab.

Marks pointed out that this doesn't "address PRs counting for multiple user groups though ex: phpnw conference didn’t break those apart, but brazil does kinda."

For the merging part itself in the php-src repository one way would be to do the following:

cd php-src
wget https
://github.com/phpcommunity/phptestfest-php-src/pull/1.patch
git am
-3 1.patch
git push origin master

Hi,

Since I'm afraid some of the pull requests will get stale if we wait much longer, I've created new pull request for my 2 branches to php/php-src:
If other people are interested in doing the same, I'm happy to list the steps to do so.

Hi guys

What do you thing if we send all tests from phptestfest repository to php-src?

In my opinion it is the best option to have the tests included on src. Someone that have access on phptestfest repository could do it?

Hi,

That would indeed be the best solution, but I don't have access to the phptestfest repo.

Thanks, Rodrigo.

Quick update on where I am with this: I am putting together a webinar, among other things, we'll use to talk about the 2017 TestFest. At that webinar, I'd like to pass the baton on to someone else to run with it. If you'd like to volunteer, let me know. :-)

I'll have more details on this in the near future; it'll be another couple of weeks before I have things in place.

Thanks,
Ben
