Hello SPHR friends!
NSSLHA wants to invite you to our upcoming event NSSLHA Gives Back: Winter Cultural Event. We’ve connected with local SLP Teresa Bárcenas to offer SPHR students an amazing volunteering opportunity next week!
When: February 24th, 2:30pm-7pm (that includes set up and breakdown)
Where: 13455 SE 97th Ave, Clackamas, OR 97015
Here’s what to expect to help with:
Before event: Responsibilities include helping move chairs and tables, setting up and decorating, labeling food allergies on purchased food, setting up the eating area
During event: Welcoming families, directing families where the event is taking place, reminding families where to sign-in and where the food is, engaging students, assisting students with completion of activities, modeling communication between families and students
After event: Putting back everything where it was, re-organizing tables and chairs, clean-up
They will need help with all parts of the event, so if you’re only available to help for part of the time frame, still come!
Mission of the event:
Teresa is a bilingual SLP providing specialized AAC services in the Clackamas Educational Service District. She regularly organizes community events for children who use AAC and families, such as performances and social gatherings, one of which is occurring next week!
The aim of Teresa’s cultural events is in furthering diversity education and providing a space for socializing and connection within the community. The Winter Cultural Event is a family event, for parents, students, and staff to attend.
For further information, here is a link to their website, a video of their annual Track Meet, and some photos from one of Teresa’s events on Facebook. We’ve also attached additional information to this email on Teresa's mission and the cultural events for folks to access to prepare for the event.
This is a fabulous opportunity to share our support with Teresa and her community, make connections, and connect with other student volunteers as well, so we hope to see you there!!!
