Hello Speech and Hearing Students! Scholarship application due dates are coming up on March 1st, so we want to make sure you know about our NSSLHA scholarship opportunity! Through Scholarship Universe, we have a National Student Speech Hearing and Language Association scholarship that is for active members only. The application for this scholarship requires just a little information and a few small essay questions to apply! But you have to be a member to apply and win. So, if you haven’t already, now is the perfect time to officially become a NSSLHA member! Below, we have a little reminder of what NSSLHA is and how to become a member!

What is PSU NSSLHA?

The PSU chapter of the National Student Speech-Language and Hearing Association (NSSLHA) is a group of pre-professionals interested in speech, language, hearing, and swallowing differences. We welcome any in-person or remote part and full-time undergrad, post-bacc, or graduate students who are interested in communication sciences and disorders.

PSU NSSLHA is an active group with educational and social events each month, catering to both in-person and fully remote students. Recurring events include study groups, Food for Thought (F4T) presentations with SPHR faculty, and one-off events where we connect with our community. Becoming a member gives you the opportunity to spend time with departmental faculty outside of the classroom, network with professionals, and to develop lasting relationships with fellow students. PSU NSSLHA members are also eligible to apply for our members-only spring tuition reimbursement scholarship.

How much does it cost?

Being a PSU NSSLHA member costs $30 a year, which can be paid in $10 installments at the beginning of the Fall, Winter, and Spring quarters. Membership dues help support NSSLHA activities, including paying for guest speakers and scholarships. We want PSU NSSLHA membership to be accessible to everyone. If you cannot pay dues because of financial hardship, please indicate that on your membership application form.

What about National NSSLHA?

Being a national NSSLHA member ($60) helps you stay current on advancements in the field, enhance your academic knowledge, find internships and employment, network with other students, and save money on products and services. Additionally, once NSSLHA students graduate from their master’s programs and gain their CCC’s, ASHA offers a one-time  discount of $225 off ASHA initial dues and fees of $511 for membership and certification. The Conversion Discount is a benefit from ASHA exclusively for National NSSLHA members who have been members for 2 consecutive years.

We hope you take advantage of these two opportunities. We are here for you if you have any questions regarding our local PSU NSSLHA Chapter, National NSSLHA, or ASHA memberships. It’s not too late! Become a member today and start benefiting from your NSSLHA membership!
