Hi SPHR folks,

If you will be in Portland this July 8-11, please consider attending the Global Improvisation Initiative. Teresa Roberts and I in SPHR are part of an interdisciplinary group that has been exploring how applied improvisation techniques can enhance clinical training for speech-language pathology students. While this conference is focused more broadly, the conference organizer Theresa Dudeck has experience working with SLP students and recommends SPHR students check out these sessions. The conference registration is only $25 for students.

Please see the attached flyers for more info (and I'm copy/pasting the description below as well). Please let me or Teresa know if you have any questions.

Best,

Carolyn

Note that due to existing short staffing, and more expected from nearly 100 NTTF colleagues getting notice of layoffs, I will respond as soon as I am able. Email Governor Kotek about increasing funding for PSU. Edit this template letter to describe the impact of the previous decade of cuts to PSU and encourage your colleagues and students to do the same.

Portland State is located on the traditional and ancestral homelands of the Multnomah, Kathlamet, Clackamas, Tumwater, Watlala bands of the Chinook, the Tualatin Kalapuya, and many other indigenous nations of the Columbia River (hayásh-tsəqʷ in the Chinook language). We acknowledge the ancestors of this place and understand that we are here because of the sacrifices forced upon them. By recognizing these communities, we honor their legacy, their lives, and their descendants.

Hello Applied Impro for Communications Team!

I've been trying to get over to your departments with posters & postcards for the GII but just haven't had the time. I will get them over this week or send a student helper to do so!

In the meantime, I've attached an invitation that I would LOVE to go out on your listserves.
This GII Symposium (the first in-person gathering we've had since 2019 in London!) will be an incredible opportunity for your students (especially graduate students!) & faculty to experience the power of theatrical improvisation, and for you all to help us expand the borders of how we use it.

A preliminary schedule of sessions can be viewed here: https://giisymposium2026.sched.com/

Sooner is better for getting the word out because the early bird pricing ends June 1 (just 2 weeks away). For PSU students, it is only $25.00 to attend!

I've attached another digital asset (our postcard!) for you to share, too.

Let me know if you have questions. And thank you!!!

Fondly,
Theresa
