We are looking for students passionate about community engagement who may want to get some off-campus nonprofit experience. Our Student Leaders for Service (SLS) program is accepting applications for next year. SLS is a year-long leadership program centered around service, combining weekly shifts with local community-based organizations with regular meetings focused on leadership development, social change, and the ins and outs of working with volunteers. 

We are also looking for students interested in co-leading our Eco-Explorers after school garden/STEM club out at Alder Elementary on Wednesdays next year; experience working with elementary-school kids and Spanish-language proficiency is especially helpful for this leadership role!

2025-26 Service Leadership Positions

Eligible for a $600 service leadership award each term!

  • 2025-26 Student Leaders for Service (SLS)
    Take your skills to the next level with the Student Leaders for Service (2025-26) leadership program, where you'll gain hands-on experience with your top community partners!  Serve as a volunteer or intern with a local nonprofit 4-6 hours each week, digging into a community-based role that speaks to your interest & experience. Whether your passion is education, hunger, health, social justice, sustainability, or something else, SLS positions range every year in focus and can apply to all sorts of interests and majors. All SLS members participate in Friday morning leadership meetings, develop service projects in teams, and act as service ambassadors on campus to get other students involved.

    What kind of placements are we talking about? Below are just a few examples

    • Pacific Refugee Support Group - Core Volunteer / Community Outreach & Engagement
    • HOLLA Mentors – Youth Mentor
    • Minds Matter – College Access Intern
    • Rose Haven – Guest Services or Back-End Operations
    • Friends of Trees -- Green Space Community Stewardship Intern
    • Family Promise Metro East -- Volunteer Coordinator & Support Roles for Family Shelter

  • 2025-26 Eco-Explorers Mentor Garden/STEM Club Lead: Are you passionate about education, youth mentorship, and supporting a team of PSU students working with elementary school students on STEM Education and Social/Emotional learning through a bilingual youth garden club? Step up as a Team Lead for the 2026-2027 school year -- and gain a $600/term leadership scholarship in the process!


    The Team Leads support and lead a team of peers in a new afterschool "Eco Explorers" English/Spanish garden club program at Alder Elementary School youth, helping kids develop science, math, and social-emotional skills through hands-on activities in and outside of the garden! Availability on Wednesday afternoons and Fridays next year is required.
