LOCATION: Smith Memorial Student Union (SMSU)
DURATION: 3/23/2026
PROJECT INFORMATION: There will be work done on the Southeast exterior stairwell of the Smith Memorial Student Union building to improve the waterproofing of the surfaces. Work will be done to prepare the steps and surface area and apply a new sealant.
PROJECT BENEFITS: The current condition of the surfaces is allowing moisture to penetrate into the Smith Memorial Student Union building. This project will add a new urethane sealant to the southeast exterior stairwell to provide proper waterproofing to the surfaces.
IMPACT: During the waterproofing work there will be impacts from vibrations and noise for the preparation of the area for new sealant. Once the sealant is applied odors will be experienced. Dampers will be shut to keep odors out of the building. Please contact the project manager (Jonathan Farrow) to obtain Safety Data Sheets for information about the products being used in this area.
ACCESSIBILITY IMPACTS: Usage of the southeast stairwell will be restricted during this work. A barricade will be placed at the bottom of the stairs and signage will be hung in the Smith 026 study lounge making people aware of the impacts.
