LOCATION: Smith Memorial Student Union (SMSU)
DURATION: 5/27/2026 to 9/18/2026
PROJECT INFORMATION: This project involves a full roof replacement for the Smith Memorial Student Union. Work will include the removal of existing roofing materials and the installation of a new, high-efficiency roofing system to ensure the long-term integrity of the building. Future Impact Notices will be sent out regarding this project.
PROJECT BENEFITS: The new roofing system will provide improved weather protection, enhance the building's energy efficiency, and prevent future water intrusion, ensuring a more comfortable environment for all students and staff.
IMPACT: - Noise and Vibration: Occupants on upper floors should expect intermittent noise from construction equipment and materials handling.
- Odors: Some materials used during the installation may produce odors; however, ventilation measures will be in place to minimize indoor impact.
- Staging & Perimeter: A safety perimeter will be established around portions of the building for equipment and material storage.
- Crane Activity: Periodic crane lifts may be required to move materials to the roof. During these times, specific ground areas will be temporarily cordoned off for safety.
ACCESSIBILITY IMPACTS: - Entrances: While most entrances remain open, specific exterior pathways or doorways may be temporarily redirected during crane lifts or material delivery.
- Alternative Routes: If a specific entrance is temporarily closed, directional signage will be posted to the nearest accessible entry.
