PROJECT INFORMATION: The Shattuck Hall Eco Plaza is located east of Shattuck Hall, between the building and SW Broadway Street. The project will begin with a general clean up of the plaza including the demolition of the two existing structures and removal of overgrown vegetation. The two small structures located in the northeast and southwest corners of the plaza will be demolished by hand. Additional small structures will also be removed.
After the clean up is complete, existing benches will be refurbished and new suspended benches will be installed from the existing beams. The benches will be anchored to the concrete pad below to prevent swinging. New plantings will be added to the plaza during the fall growing season.
Demolition of the structures will generate some noise from materials being taken apart. Hand tools will be used during demolition and refurbishment, and no heavy equipment is planned during this project
PROJECT BENEFITS: Clean up and refurbishment of this area will create a welcoming plaza for the grand opening of the new Art Building this fall.
IMPACT: A staging/laydown area will be created on the southern end of the plaza during the demolition period. The staging / laydown area will be surrounded by cones and caution tape. The plaza will be closed while work is being done.
ACCESSIBILITY IMPACTS: Pathways around the plaza will remain open. Electrical cords or water hose may run from Shattuck Hall to the plaza while work is being done and will be marked with cones.
