LOCATION: Smith Memorial Student Union (SMSU)
DURATION: 9/16/2025 to 9/26/2025
PROJECT INFORMATION: There will be work done on the North entrance and Southeast corner of the Smith Memorial Student Union building to improve the waterproofing of the surfaces. Work will be done to route out cracks and apply new caulking and a new sealant will be added.
PROJECT BENEFITS: The current condition of the surfaces is allowing moisture to penetrate into the Smith Memorial Student Union building. This project will replace existing caulking that is deteriorating as well as a new urethane sealant to the southeast corner area and landing to provide proper waterproofing to the surfaces.
IMPACT: There will be an abatement of caulking done on the evening after 5pm on Tuesday the 16th that will close down the South entrance of the building for approximately 4 hours. The entrance will be reopened once work has completed. During the waterproofing work there will be impacts from vibrations and noise for the preparation of the area for new sealant. Once the sealant is applied there will be odors possible. Dampers will be shut to keep odors out of the building. Please contact the project manager (Jonathan Farrow) to obtain Safety Data Sheets for information about the products being used in this area.
ACCESSIBILITY IMPACTS: The south entrance will be closed on September 16th at 5pm for approximately 4 hours while abatement work is completed in the area. Throughout the duration of the waterproofing work there will be no accessibility impacts.
