Hello, I’m writing to announce that PA DCNR Bureau of Forestry has two job openings: a Human Dimensions Specialist and a Forest Resilience Specialist. These are both permanent, full-time positions in the Bureau of Forestry and will be part of the Rural and Community Forestry section. You do not need to be a current resident to apply, though these are in-person roles in Pennsylvania (with potential for some telework).
How to apply
Links to apply are forwarded below, open until 05/05/2026. There are multiple links to apply. If you have a forestry background, apply through the forest program specialist job classification. If you have a natural resources background, apply through that track. These positions are posted in multiple tracks to be accessible to a broader candidate pool, and the job descriptions and pay grades are the same for either track. If unsure, you can apply through both tracks and will be informed which is the most appropriate for you. The ‘internal’ postings are for current DCNR employees. All other candidates, including contractors working for the Commonwealth, should apply using the ‘external’ job postings.
Background about these positions:
The mission of the Rural and Community Forestry section is to provide leadership and support for sustaining, restoring, and conserving productive forest ecosystems; valuing the economic, ecological, and social benefits of trees; enhancing rural, urban, and agricultural landscapes with trees; as well as supporting community livability. This section is made up of 3 teams: woodland stewardship which supports PA’s privately-owned forest (making up about 70% of PA’s woodlands), urban and community forestry, and watershed forestry which works on riparian buffers and lawn-to-habitat conversion. Both of these open positions will be dynamic roles in our innovative woodland stewardship team and will collaborate with other teams in Rural and Community Forestry and the Bureau of Forestry as a whole.
The woodland stewardship team supports a robust network of service foresters throughout PA, manages the PWREN cost-share program for forest resilience practices, and provides lots of education, event support, and technical assistance for forestry and agroforestry with a diverse group of partners. That is just a few highlights of our dynamic work. See job postings below for more detailed descriptions of work.
Please share this with your networks where relevant!
With thanks,
Robbie

Subject: Woodland Stewardship Forestry positions
Good morning:
On April 22, a Human Dimension Specialist and a Forest Resilience Specialist were posted working within the Rural and Community Forestry, Woodland Stewardship Section. Please check out the links to the job postings below with the specific timeframes to apply (internal 04/22/2026 to 05/01/2026 and externally 04/22/2026 to 05/05/2026). I apologize for the delayed notice of these positions. Both positions were originally posted spring of 2025 and there has been little change to either position(work location option to Forest Resiliency Specialist). I encourage anyone interested in either of the positions to talk to me for more details.
Both permanent positions demonstrate the investment and growth within the Rural and Community program as it aligns to the strategies and goals within the newly completed strategic plan within the Bureau of Forestry. If you have a similar vision to support the mission of Woodland Stewardship by providing leadership and support for sustaining, restoring, and conserving productive forest ecosystems; valuing the economic, ecological, and social benefits of trees; enhancing rural, urban, and agricultural landscapes with trees; as well as supporting community livability, I encourage you to learn more about either position.
