Hello,

We have some exciting news at Keystone Tree Crops Cooperative (KTCC) for both consumers and producers of local nut products.

I am reaching out to introduce our Yellowbud Hickory Nut Oil and to explore your potential interest in this unique, Pennsylvania-produced cooking oil. Some call it our local native olive oil alternative.

We are offering both retail and wholesale cold-pressed culinary oil. We gathered 2,800 pounds of yellowbud hickory nuts this fall, and are pressing them into 50 gallons of hickory nut cooking oil this winter.

Hickory oil is a flavorful and versatile high-heat cooking oil, with a smoke point up to 400°F. The nutritional profile is rich in oleic acid, performing well for sautéing, roasting, and dressings.

For Producers

Please take our survey if you grow nuts, are thinking about growing nuts, or consume nuts www.ktcc.coop/survey

We are also welcoming more producers and gatherers of nut crops across the Mid-Atlantic. Visit our website to learn how to become a Producer Member and read the Keystone Tree Crops Cooperative Yellowbud Hickory Harvester’s Guide. www.ktcc.coop/resources

The nuts of the yellowbud hickory are wild collected from native trees that could be in your backyard. KTCC envisions healthy tree crops on the plates of Pennsylvanians. As a new agricultural cooperative, we are owned and operated by our producer  members, meaning that the purchase of our products supports local farmers and gatherers. We work toward sustainable perennial agricultural practices on farms and in communities. We are also mapping a network of trees where members may gather nuts, and would like you to be included.

For Consumers

We are currently gauging interest from potential customers, including wholesale partners, and would welcome the opportunity to learn more about your needs and interests. We anticipate offering delivery for wholesale cases and your feedback would be invaluable as we finalize our distribution routes and timelines. Please share this e-mail with your local restaurants, and local food marketplaces.

Please e-mail mark...@ktcc.coop to discuss wholesale and retail opportunities. Oil will be available in the next few weeks.

Our current hickory oil offerings include:

  • 5 oz bottles retail price of $22

  • Wholesale cases priced at $422 per case, containing 24 five-ounce bottles ($17.58 per bottle)

  • Limited availability of 1-gallon bottles priced at $353

You can also sign up on our website to be notified when specific nut products are available www.ktcc.coop/products
