Hi,
I put up a 7.5ft fence 400ft circumference two years ago to keep deer, groundhogs and rabbits out of my farming area. It has worked beautifully so far. I used the company Critterfence, critterfence.com they are very responsive, have great customer service and how- to videos on Youtube.

Hi all,

I work at West Virginia University under Extension. When we started a heritage apple orchard, we had significant concerns about fencing to protect our trial area.

We had an eight-foot-high woven wire installed on two of the farms and they are wonderful. Our farm staff has not had any deer in the enclosures, which in our area is extremely difficult.

We are adding hops this year to the 8-acre space next to our apples as they need the same level of wildlife protection.

One was built by Pro-Fence out of Shippensburg, PA and the other was built by Pine Valley Fencing, also out of PA.

Good luck on your fencing project!

I was just coming into this thread to also recommend Pro-Fence (profence.org

My husband and I had a small produce farm in northeast PA where there is an extreme overpopulation of deer. We went with an 8' tall fence, woven wire with smaller openings for the bottom 2+ feet of fence to help keep out the smaller critters like racoons. The deer stayed out (except for the times when we were silly humans and forgot to close the gates), and the company was EXCELLENT to work with even though we were probably a 3+ hour drive for them, with no easy access to the parcel we were fencing, and with rocky glacial till soil. We also were fencing a very irregularly shaped piece of ground with a total of 4 gates. Of course all the corners and gates added to the cost of it, but it's been something like 5 years since it was installed and everything is solid.

Similar to critter fence, Grow Pittsburgh often uses/recommends deer busters fencing for community gardens. It's proven to be relatively straightforward as far as install goes with materials that seem to last: https://deerbusters.com. For bigger jobs, we've used Penn Fencing.
