Hello,
I just graduated with an Organic Agriculture and Food Systems degree with a focus on sustainable livestock production, and I am looking for my first post-grad livestock job. I have mostly worked with beef cattle, but have additional zookeeping experience that makes me a great candidate for a mixed livestock farming operation. I wrote my thesis on using hedge agroforestry systems for heat stress in small ruminants.
Skills include animal behavior and welfare analyses, using barbed wire and electric fencing, operating a cattle chute, driving cattle, performing health checks with minor medical intervention. I can also clean and sanitize sensitive barn structures like milking parlors, and perform basic maintenance (including fences). I can drive stick shift, as well as perform office tasks (computers, recordkeeping, data collection, planning, etc.). I am not scared of an Excel spreadsheet. I am also qualified to work in a biosecure environment if needed.
My goal is to learn as much as possible so I can eventually transition into a farm management role. I'll be honest - my biggest weakness is that I haven't been taught how to drive a tractor yet, so if that is a required part of the job, I would need to be trained into it. I also have some experience with horses, though it has been 10 years since I've worked with them.
Overall, I am looking for Full-time work, year round, within 30-45 minutes of Wyomissing, PA. If you have an opening on your farm, please reach out!
