Hello Ron!
Keystone Development Center (KDC), in partnership with the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture and Pittsburgh Foundation along with support from Grow Pittsburgh, the Pittsburgh Food Policy Council, and Chatham University Food Studies, would like to invite you to a convening of urban ag growers and partners in Pittsburgh. The goal is to discuss how a cooperative business can serve the collective needs of individual growers while strengthening the urban ag ecosystem in the City. The intention is to get all the relevant players in the same room together to discuss a collective strategy for going forward with KDC’s support. KDC is a nonprofit organization that specializes in cooperative business development and supports the growth of cooperative enterprises in the Mid-Atlantic region, including in Pittsburgh, PA. For more information on KDC please visit our website.
The event will be taking place at the Pittsburgh Friends Meeting House from 9am to 5pm. The address is 4836 Ellsworth Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15213. We acknowledge that this is a full day engagement, so we are offering stipends to interested participants and will provide complimentary coffee and lunch. Please fill out our registration form to confirm your participation! On the form you can indicate if you’d like to receive a stipend. Please also answer the background research questions to help us frame the discussion.
To give you a sense of what the day will look like we will be answering the following questions through our agenda:
- What is a co-op?
- Why a Pittsburgh Urban Farmers Co-op?
- What will the co-op do for you?
- What would it need you to do?
- How do we get there?
- How will it work?
- What is needed for success?
- What’s next?
We made a really big effort to get contact information for as many urban farmers in Pittsburgh and related partners as possible. It’s likely that we have missed some. We ask that you please forward this email and share the attached flyer with five people in your network you think needs to be there. If you’re feeling more ambitious feel free to cast a wider net.
If you have any questions, comments, or concerns please forward them to Ron Gaydos (r...@kdc.coop) and Mat Forth (mat...@kdc.coop). We welcome any feedback you have whether it’s about the agenda or otherwise. We’re looking forward to having you there!
In cooperation and solidarity,
Keystone Development Center
