Hello everyone!
I am Andie-Kate White, a horticulture graduate research assistant in Kansas State University’s Urban Food Systems program.
I am Andie-Kate White, a horticulture graduate research assistant in Kansas State University’s Urban Food Systems program.
We wanted to spread the word that registration is now open for the 2026 Urban Food Systems Symposium, returning to Kansas City! This year's theme, Cultivating Communities, Cities, and Food Systems brings together folks from 27+ states who are shaping sustainable, resilient urban food systems.
Who's in the Room at UFSS?
UFSS attendees span academia, government, nonprofits, and working farms — professors and grad students alongside city food-policy directors, extension educators, and farm owners.
Folks involved in Higher Education & Research - spanning the full academic ladder from graduate students, research assistants, and post-docs to Assistant, Associate, and full Professors, plus institute directors and research faculty across disciplines.
Extension & Outreach Professionals - ranging from Extension Educators, County Agents, and Field Specialists in horticulture, nutrition, and health who bring boots-on-the-ground experience translating research into community practice.
Nonprofit & Farm Leaders show up as Executive Directors, CEOs, Farm Directors, and program coordinators running everything from urban demonstration farms and training programs to food policy and food business navigation initiatives.
Government & Municipal Officials, such as city Directors of Urban Agriculture, add a policy and civic-planning lens to the conversation.
Together, this blend of researchers, educators, growers, nonprofit leaders, and rising students creates a symposium where practical, on-the-ground knowledge meets rigorous research — exactly the kind of room where new ideas about urban food systems take root.
