We are recruiting participants for a short (10-15 minute) survey on attitudes towards animals, empathy, and knowledge of animal welfare as part of a study with the University of Pennsylvania’s School of Veterinary Medicine. Participants should be over the age of 18 and residents of the United States. We are particularly interested in having responses from participants in farming and agriculture to assess if these scales can be used with these populations.
In this study, we have created new scales to assess people’s views on animal welfare and empathy. In the past, some surveys have measured attitudes towards animals using questions about animal rights or ethical uses of animals. Our approach tries to reduce focus on these topics.
To test our new surveys, we are comparing them with some previous surveys. Because of this, you may see some questions that were designed for studies with different goals. These questions do not necessarily reflect the researchers’ views or definitions of animal welfare or empathy.
