Hello neighbors,
Some City of Bloomington information and resources to share:

"Welcome To Bloomington" packets. I requested and received 25 Welcome packets from the Bloomington HAND (Housing and Neighborhood Development) department.
The packets are intended to be offered to any new neighbors. New neighbors are new home owners, new people who are renting, or new people living in a home short-term.
The packets are intended to welcome and inform those new to our neighborhood. The packets contain:
  • Information about City services: QR code for City Welcome page: https://bloomington.in.gov/welcome, items the City manages in regard to rental property, trash/yard/ snow information,
  • Quiet Night information, parking information, pet information, and Information on how to register a complaint (potholes, graffiti - via ureport porthole.
  • Quiet Night door hanger with detailed information
  • Two "fridge magnets" with Welcome To Bloomington website address, one HAND pen.
-> If you learn of new residents, please contact me (spa...@iu.edu) and I will give you the packet to offer them if you wish or, I will offer the packet to the new neighbors.
When the packet is delivered, it would be great to offer the new neighbor(s) the 'Park Ridge News' address if they are interested in being added so they may receive neighborhood information.
The address is: news@parkridgeneighborhood.org
If the new neighbor(s) are Facebook users, mentioning the Park Ridge Facebook page would also be a kind offer.

Mulching information:
Here is some information regading the current neighborhood mulching inititative. We currently have NINE households who are registered who mulch. Do you mulch? If yes, please regsiter per the link below.

Do You Have What It Takes to Mulch Much? Take The Challenge!

We're looking for 1,000 households in 2021 to take The Challenge of mulching and composting as many of the leaves in your yard as possible, put the excess in paper bags for collection by the City yard waste service, and try a new on-demand vacuum-based leaf collection service at the very end of the leafing season (roughly December 9-23).

Do you already mulch much? GREAT! Sign up to be a Yard Leader to teach others how to do it, too!

How to Participate

1 - Register HERE to be part of The Challenge, get your neighborhood on The Challenge Leaderboard, AND select another neighborhood against which you want to directly compete!

2 - Spread the word! Encourage other residents in your neighborhood to also register for The Challenge.

3 - Volunteer to be a Yard Leader. Yard leaders will help support and educate Challenge participants in mulching and composting methods.

Challenge Activity Calendar

  • July 29, 2021; 7-8pm; Informational Meeting online via zoom (watch the recording here)
  • April - September 2021: Challenge registration; Yard Leader registration
  • September - December 2021: Challenge participation; neighborhood competition Leaderboard launch
