Following up on Diversity Budget for Global AppSec DC 2023

Hi Andrew,

I’m following up with you, at @Dawn’s request, about the diversity related activities to prioritize for this year’s Global AppSec D.C. conference. 

Based on experience from past conferences, the following seem to be the most important:

• Diversity scholarships to attend the conference (as many scholarships as the Foundation can afford)
• A free training (which Vandana has led, sometimes along with Nicole Becher)

Can you please put together a short (3 slide tops) presentation for the Dublin Board meeting? It's in a couple of weeks with your request for the Board's approval.

@Lauren Thomas Can you please work with Zoe on planning for "a free training" at AppSec DC, assuming the Board approves it. The speaker and topic should be in the 3 slides for the Board proposal. If all training is fully booked already, please let Zoe know. I'd be interested in ensuring that we know who is able to attend the training if it's free, as it will likely compete with other paid trainings.

I have requested access to the document. I really want to ensure Outreach / DIA have a clear goal of worldwide outreach and diversity, and some ideas on how they can achieve it. We need more than just to meet regularly, but also to get folks coming to OWASP events, contributing / using our projects, and coming to our chapters. I see this combined committee as a breath of fresh air to revitalize our approach.

Thank you Zoe!  I am not sure if you were aware or not but Kelly and I met with Nicole in 2022 to discuss this same idea.  It is a great idea and is definitely something that OWASP would like to support.  From the events side, we were concerned about this conflicting with our paid trainings.  Nicole understood our position and we all agreed on either a virtual training or we can host this training on a conference day rather than a training day.  

We followed up a few times with Nicole after our call and we never heard back. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on bringing this back to the table.
