Hello there,

My name is Raphael Hagi, i'm a leader for Belo Horizonte Chapter from Brazil. I'm need to get some guidance about OWASP SAMM translation for brazilian portuguese.

I've read the "contributing to git" file, but for this translation effort, I think we have some aspects to clarify with you guys.

1) We think about website and all assets translations, such spredsheets and pdf files. For this approach, we wonder how it possible to run a translated website version on Hugo, under owaspsamm domain. It works with browser's preferred language? We need to add some menu (where?) to choose a language?

2) If we just translate the PDF file, where the source of it is located? It's a bunch of markdown files or it is a document? It's compiled on project's deployment?

Thanks!!

Hi Raphael,

thanks for your email. We're currently in the middle of getting the translations up and running. The idea is that translations for the different languages are being created via the CrowdIn platform (https://crowdin.com/translate/owasp-samm), which currently contains the raw data for the core model (actually, today it contains only part of the model for our POC to work, but the latest full model will be coming there soon). From there the website (being worked on) and the PDF (later) will be automatically generated. We should also be able to generate the XLS file automatically, but our first focus is currently on the website.

We're currently setting up all the mechanics to make this work. And we will need people that, per language, will want to take up the responsibility to do the actual translation (and keep up to that with changes that are being implemented on the core model). We're already noting down your name as a potential candidate for Brazilian Portuguese :-)

We're hoping to have a more concrete success story to share soon, and to invite all people interested to collaborate to make this happen.

Best,
Bart.

Hello Bart,

Awesome news. Please, keep my name on this! I really love the SAMM concept.

We have cloned the official repo to start this work, but it still a very beginning work. We can loose this work doing translations on markdown files from git or you can use it later on crowdin?

Do you have some expectations for starting this translations efforts in official way?

Thank you!

Nice to see that you're eager to help on this !

It will be a matter of a few weeks before we have all up and running as it should. Translations will probably be easier to do via CrowdIn, since this will be fully integrated with our entire CI/CD pipeline. So if you can hold your horses a bit longer, I would advise to take that path.

We'll definitely keep you informed.

Best,
Bart.

Hello Bart, how is it going?

There's some news about translations? We're still looking for a green signal. :-)
