Dear Member,Each August, the OWASP community begins selecting its Global Board of Directors for the next year. Board Directors serve for multiple years and are elected by our members. In this election, four Board seats will be up for grabs.Running for the Board:
- To be eligible to stand for the OWASP Board, you must be a continuous paid individual member as of September 30, 2024.
- If you meet this requirement and want to run, you need to nominate yourself as a candidate.
Participating in the Election:
- Even if you’re not running for the Board, you can still get involved by contributing to the election process.
- One way to do this is by participating in creating or reviewing interview questions for the candidates.

Summary
The Board of Directors for the OWASP Foundation is a team of elected, unpaid volunteers responsible for the strategic direction, financial health, and overall governance of the organization. Directors serve a two-year term, working collaboratively to uphold the foundation's mission and core values. This is a vital leadership role that requires strong commitment and a deep understanding of the OWASP community.
Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership: Set the Foundation's strategic direction, vision, and mission. Work with staff and the community to establish goals and priorities.
Fiduciary and Financial Oversight: Oversee the Foundation's financial health, including budget approval and monitoring, and ensure sound, ethical, and legal governance.
Fundraising: Promote the Foundation and actively engage in fundraising by introducing new corporate members, sponsors, and donations.
Governance and Policy: Adopt sound governance and financial policies. The Board's primary responsibility is to formulate and evaluate policy and strategy, with day-to-day operations delegated to the professional staff.
Community Engagement: Serve as a model of leadership and civility, treating all community members and staff with respect. Participate in public board meetings and represent the Foundation.
Compliance: Adhere to all applicable laws, the OWASP Code of Conduct, and all Foundation policies.
Qualifications & Requirements
OWASP Membership: Must be an OWASP individual member in good standing for at least twelve continuous months prior to the election deadline.
Commitment: The role is for a two-year term. Directors must attend at least 75% of general Board meetings annually, with a preference for attending at least two in-person meetings, typically held at Global AppSec events.
Conduct: Must be a person of honesty and integrity who is willing to treat others with respect and maintain appropriate confidentiality.
Technical Aptitude: A strong personal initiative and technical aptitude are expected.
Onboarding: If elected, successful candidates must complete all necessary onboarding, including signing the Board of Directors Commitment Agreement, and agreeing to the Board Code of Conduct.
Application Process Board Directors are elected by the OWASP membership. Candidates must maintain good standing as an OWASP Voting Member throughout the election process and their term. The election process includes submitting a bio and a statement of interest and may involve a video Q&A with the community. Specific dates and deadlines for nominations and voting are published on the OWASP website.
