Hello OWASP Cincinnati!

As we continue our emergence from COVID shutdowns, it is a great opportunity to meet virtually again.  Kevin Finnigin will be presenting on the current state of open-source Thread Intelligence Platforms (TIP).  Depending on your job responsibilities threat intel may or may not be in your responsibilities. But I am sure that conversation will lead to parallels (authentication, logging, and other application security facets, etc.).  I'm excited to meet with everyone again.

Agenda:

·         Speaker and topic introduction and OWASP relevancy discussion

·         Presentation - The State of (Free) Threat Intelligence Platforms

·         Roundtable Discussion Opportunity

·         Housekeeping and Meeting Closure

Meeting Time: August 13th – 11:30AM to 12:30PM ET

Presentation Abstract: Cyber Threat Intelligence (CTI) is a rapidly maturing area with record numbers of organizations reporting a CTI program. In order to organize, visualize and understand the increasing complexity of this information, a system to store and enrich this information becomes an obvious need from the start. Enter the Threat Intelligence Platform or TIP. TIPs grew out of a need to store, process, organize and share CTI beyond the limits of the venerable spreadsheet. In this talk I'll highlight some of the latest open-source TIPs and their newest features. I'll present the benefits and trade-offs for choosing an open-source TIP and some thoughts on evaluating commercial platforms.

Speaker Bio: Kevin Finnigin has 18 years’ experience in information security. He's reversed engineered malware for both the U.S. government and private sector and performed incident response roles at various levels. He holds a number of credentials, including an M.S. in Information Assurance and SANS GCFA.  Kevin is senior member of the threat intelligence team at Blackberry where he researches, discovers and catalogs novel adversarial tactics, techniques and procedures.
