Dear OWASP Germany,

My name is Jim Manico, a frequent speaker and volunteer at OWASP. I would like to tour Germany in October. I would like to offer to give a talk at any of your Stammtisch's during this time. My talk title is:

ORDNUNG! PRÄZISION! SPEZIFIKATION! Why Secure Software Begins Before the First Line of Code

Abstract

Developers spend enormous effort fixing defects that should never have existed. The root cause is often not poor coding. It is poor requirements.

This presentation introduces Spec-Driven Development, a disciplined engineering approach where precise, security-aware specifications become the foundation for implementation, testing, code review, and AI-assisted development. You'll learn practical techniques for writing requirements that are measurable, verifiable, and resistant to ambiguity, allowing both humans and AI to consistently produce secure software.

Because secure code starts with secure specifications and engineering discipline.

****

Already, Stuttgart has asked for me to speak around October 21. Is anyone else interested?

Tschüss!

Hi Jim,

Would love to see you again at the Ruhrpott Chapter. Last time you visited us in Essen, but nowadays we are at the Ruhr University in Bochum.

Do you come around West Germany? What would be your preferred days?

Cheers,
Christian

Hi Jim,

Great to meet you at Global AppSec, and glad you followed up with the German chapter leads after our chat there, proactive as always 😁Thanks for asking in the round.

You packed the house on your last visit, easily our busiest event, so we'd love to get you back and fill the room again. We're more than happy to host you at our OWASP Frankfurt Chapter.

The week around 21 October works well for us. If that clashes with another chapter, we can also take the 20th or 22nd, or whatever suits you.

@Chapter Leads - if any of the other chapter leads want to jump in around the same dates, let's do that please. Happy to coordinate so a few chapters can each pack a room.

Let me know which date you'd like to lock in and I'll get it set up.

Best,

Dan

Hey Jim,

great catching up with you in Vienna, buddy!

Would love seeing you in Hamburg too. Don’t know how long you’re planning to stay in the country of Ordnung, Präzision (my ass, lol. Also not soccer, hehe) . Best for us would be any week starting @ 5th, 12th or 26th of October.

Thx, Dirk

Hi Jim,

Thank you for your kind offer to speak at a German OWASP Stammtisch! Sven Strittmatter and I are the Chapter Leads for OWASP Stuttgart, and we would be happy to host you at one of our events.

Regarding your note that Stuttgart had already requested October 21: We were slightly surprised by this, as neither Sven nor I have made that request. Could it be that you're referring to a different group, meetup, or event based in Stuttgart? Please let us know so we can clarify this.

As for scheduling, we currently have two remaining Stammtische planned for this year: September 30 and November 17. If either of these dates aligns with your visit, we’d be happy to reserve a speaking slot. Alternatively, if your trip to Germany falls on a different date, we can organize a additional "Special Stammtisch". We’re confident it would draw strong interest and be highly appreciated by our community, everybody is still talking about your last visit in Stuttgart some years ago!

Looking forward to hearing from you!

Best,

Johannes

We would also love to have you speak in Cologne. If we can plan something in that same October week it would be great.

Hi Jim,

this is Augsburg in Bavaria speaking. I'd really love to have you with us and we'd be honored listening to your kinda german-ish sounding talk ;-) We regularly meet every 4th Wednesday of the month. In October this would be the 28th but we could also find another date that suits you better. Although we haven't had a chat in Vienna I really enjoyed your engagement on Jeopardy!

Best regards,

Christian

Hello all.

After collecting everyone's request so far, I would suggest the following speaker schedule.

  • Hamburg: Oct 12 or 13
  • Bochum: Oct 14
  • Cologne: Oct 15
  • Stuttgart: Oct 19
  • Karlsruhe: Oct 20
  • Frankfurt: Oct 21, with Oct 22 as backup

Does this route and timing seem reasonable? I plan to spend the weekend in Cologne to celebrate the greatness of Kölsch, which I'm told by my Cologne friends is the only true German beer, ya?

Would any other chapters care to add to his trip?

Sincerely,

Dirk Wetter

Hey Jim,

awesome. +1 from Hamburg for your planning here. Details to follow.

Cheers, Dirk

PS: For the Kölsch beer …  you'll figure ;-)

Hi Jim,

Augsburg would also be intersted in your talk. I wrote an email yesterday, but maybe there was a race condition with yours.
Our proposal would be the 28th, but please let me know if another date suits you better.

Best regards,
Christian
