Hello Leaders

Like many other clubs Suncoast Orienteering has long been offering free orienteering to people at events where they volunteer to help. In its informality it has usually worked well.

As we move toward pre-registration for local events we see some potential problems.

So, I’m interested in learning how clubs give out earned ‘club dollars’ for tasks performed.  Or how you handle rewarding volunteering if it is not practical to repay on the day.
Do you have or know of anyone who has a scale for tasks?

Can you be good enough to share how you operate rewarding your helpers? Of course, you may earn ‘Navi-Gator Dollars’ for your help.

Much appreciated.

BOK uses ECWID for our registration.  It is very flexible. It has a free level that might work for you if you don't have too many events (products) existing at one time.  We sell an annual pass ($45 individual, $65 Family of 2) that gives people free entry.  Our fees are: $7 entry, $5 stick rental, $1 whistle.  When registering if you check the box indicating that you have a pass then the $7 entry fee is removed.  That is all available in the free version. We just use the honor system and it has not been abused.  If you upgrade to one of the paid versions you can issue coupons or discounts.
One of our past events is still open in our store.  It is one of the most complex events we offer: 3 days with 4 unique radio course formats as well as a full range of orienteering courses; extra maps; whistles; radio rental; stick rental; waivers for adults & children.  You could create an event this complex on the free version.  We have the third level about $450/year that gives us 1000  products as well as coupons, discounts, and inventory control. Feel free to browse the various products in our store to get a sense as to how flexible this store front is.

If you are using EventReg, you can set up a custom field that would be a discount for workers.

We are expecting the new database to have a way to keep track of volunteers.  If you are interested in this area, please reply to me to get onto the design/review committee so we can have your input.

In addition, I would love another 5-10 volunteers for the database committee.  No special knowledge is required - just the willingness to spend an hour or two a week for 2-3 weeks a month.  And you are welcome to lurk in the background until an area comes up that you are especially interested in - volunteer management, event management, gear sales, member communications (email and newsletters and chats), team management, integration with other apps, or anything else you think we need to have as a feature.

I need you to test new features, invent individual and families of orienteers, give feedback on layout, ease of use, missing fields, confusing instructions, and other mundane tasks.  I'm hoping some of it will be interesting and exciting, but I expect much will be fairly routine.
