All, this is real.  There are lawyers out there with international reach who make their living enforcing image copyrights.  I had one such encounter.  Thankfully, I prevailed, but it could have been much worse.  

To avoid such problems, be very careful what images you take and use from the Internet, and how you use them.  Browsers such as Chrome have image screening tools that can show you freely available and licensable images (public domain, creative commons, etc.).  Do your homework on legal image reuse and protect yourself.  

I now use my own imagery whenever possible.  Good luck, and Happy Orienteering!

website, and now they have a threatening letter saying they need to pay an
exorbitant license fee.
 
Unfortunately this is not a total scam, and while their bot may have
mistakenly targeted your picture, or they may not have the documentation to
prove you misused the picture it will be a headache nonetheless.
 
To avoid this hassle you should review your images to make sure you own the
rights to them. This bot is crawling the internet and could target your
club.
