Fwd: February AOC Day HHS Steering Committee Follow-Up

Thank you to those who participated in the AOC Joint Public safety and Health & Human Services Steering Committee this month. Below is an overview of the meeting and outcomes of the recommendations made by this steering committee to the AOC Legislative Committee.

AOC Joint Public Safety-HHS Steering Committee recommendations for the following were approved by the AOC Legislative Committee:

• Support HB 4081
• Support HB 4003
• Support HB 4001
• Support HB 4074
• Support the principles to guide AOC staff in negotiations on HB 4002. 

1. Governance and Accountability: Ensure counties retain authority as the local public and mental health authority.
2. Funding: Ensure counties receive sufficient, stable, and predictable funding to support current and new programmatic requirements.
3. Immunity
4. Class A-Misdemeanor for possession of a controlled substance
5. Stress the importance of using the term diversion over deflection as currently defined by industry standards within health care treatment and law enforcement policies

A bill report detailing the status of public safety-health and human services bills that AOC is tracking is attached.
