Thank you to those of you who participated in the AOC Public Safety Steering Committee this month. Below is an overview of the meeting, including outcomes of the recommendations made by the steering committee to the AOC Legislative Committee.

The steering committee met virtually on Friday June 9th and heard an update on public safety legislation as well as reports from public safety affiliates, associates, and state agency partners.

The committee also made one recommendation to the AOC Legislative Committee, but the recommendation was not approved by the Legislative Committee:
  • Oppose HB 2054 as amended by the -2 amendment.
Therefore, AOC's position on HB 2054 remains neutral (originally, HB 2054 made district attorneys and their deputies eligible for the police & fire PERS program and AOC took a neutral stance, but the bill was recently amended so it only covers deputy DAs).

A bill report covering measures on which the Public Safety Steering Committee has taken a position is updated every Friday afternoon.

The next meeting of the AOC Public Safety Steering Committee will be an informational only legislative session wrap-up and will be held virtually on Friday, July 7th.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to me or to your steering committee co-chairs, Commissioner Dave Henslee and Commissioner Jeremy Gordon.

Best,

Michael
