Good morning,

I hope you’ve been enjoying your summer months and were able to enjoy the NLSC.  We had so much fun hosting the State Directors’ Welcome Reception and connecting with students and Advisors in our Elevator Industry Try-A-Skill Booth.  It was a huge success for us!  We had close to 500 Advisors visit our booth and close to 200 students complete all of our hands-on challenges!

I wanted to let you know we will be opening a recruitment for apprenticeship candidates for the International Union of Elevator Constructors Local 19 - Montana.  As you can see from the map below, Local 19 covers all of Montana plus areas in other states.  This recruitment is focused on Local 19’s bench based out of Montana.

Here are more details about how to apply:

Applications will be accepted beginning August 8th, 2025 at 9:00 AM PST until September 3rd at 5:00 PM PST . The recruitment will be open for the first 200 applicants or until September 3rd, 2025 at 5:00 PM PST, whichever comes first.  Applications must be completed and submitted no later than 5:00 PM PST on September 4th, 2025.

All applications are accepted online only.  No applications will be accepted in person.  Please go to www.neieprecruitment.org and select Local 19 – Montana.  There is a mandatory non-refundable $25.00 application fee.  If you have ever accepted a job as an apprentice in the IUEC you may NOT apply to this recruitment.

Please note:  Aptitude Testing will be conducted the week of September 22nd - 25th 2025.  Test dates will be assigned alphabetically, once applications are processed after September 4th, 2025.

Applicants must be at least 17 years of age to apply and 18 years of age to be registered by the Local Joint Apprenticeship Committee.  Applicants shall be a high school graduate or provide proof of equivalent educational attainment such as completion of the General Education Development (GED) tests.  Each applicant shall upload, with the completed application, a high school transcript, or high school diploma, or an official report of GED test results.  For students who have not graduated yet, they can submit a letter from their high school principal or guidance counselor stating they are on track to graduate this year.  Those students can go through the application process and, if successful, be slotted on the hiring list but will not become active on the hiring list until they turn 18 and show proof of graduation as explained earlier.

All applicants must pass an examination designed to test the applicant’s reading, math skills, and aptitude for employment in the industry.  Applicants will also take a Tool Assessment designed to assess knowledge of basic tools and their use, as well as basic measuring skills.  Applicants must be capable of performing the physical requirements of the job without posing a threat to the health and safety of themselves or others.  Upon selection for hire, applicants must pass a drug test that is paid for by the employer.  A photo ID must be presented during the application process.

We only recruit for apprentices every 2 years, so it’s a very small window of opportunity to apply for our apprenticeship program.

Please feel free to share this email with your network of Advisors in Montana.  We’re hoping to see a lot of SkillsUSA students apply and have a successful career in the elevator industry!

Sincerely,

Alycia Sparkman
