Good morning all,
I’ve received a few questions about this year’s Electrical Systems Skill Activity (trailer wiring), so I wanted to share some quick context. About five years ago, a teacher-led committee came together to review and realign the ATMS contest. The goal was to ensure the competition accurately reflected what was happening in our classrooms, not the other way around.
The Trailer Wiring portion was designed as a real-world application of DC theory. This year’s event will not involve wiring an actual trailer. Instead, students will focus on understanding how DC electricity works, interpreting diagrams, and applying that knowledge within the context of trailer wiring systems and related components.
The committee’s intent has always been to rotate and refresh topics every few years to maintain breadth and relevance in what we assess. Thanks for your continued interest and engagement in this event, and please don’t hesitate to reach out with any clarifying questions as we get closer to state!
Dusty
