Has anyone ever had any students receive a NILE merit heifer, I am looking for some guidance on how to have mine input it into their AET. In general looking for help with people that have used the breeding herd manager a lot, should they have a separate SAE for the merit heifer or add them into their breeding herd?

Hi Brooke,

Happy to help.  A NILE Merit Heifer would be entered in AET as a capital gift.  Your student will find this in "finances" then "non cash entries", then "receive a gift - non-current/capital gift".  From here, the screen defaults to breeding livestock and your student can fill out the rest and place an estimated value on the heifer.

A good introduction to the breeding manager is this video: https://video.theaet.com/watch/PYkNMWqbV8hs5cSDERtKYZ  This guide provides some additional support: https://www.theaet.com/docs/Breeding%20Herd%20Manager_2019_VK.pdf  If you really want to deep dive on the Breeding Manager, this 34 slide PPT gets into it: https://www.theaet.com/docs/Week%209%20Breeding%20Herd%20Manager%20-%20Explained.pdf

Does your student have multiple breeding heifers/cows, or just the NILE Merit Heifer?  If they are just managing a single breeding animal, the breeding manager isn't necessary.  If they're managing multiple dams, sires, and offspring, the breeding manager can be very helpful.  Happy to connect with you virtually to share in more detail.

Ben
