We are excited to announce that we are again hosting events at the Montana State Fair at the Montana Expo Park in Great Falls Montana. The dates for this year's fair July 25th through August 1st with events primarily happening on the Tuesday July 28th and Wednesday July 29th.
This year's events and opportunities include the following:
- Static Display and Projects - This is a great way to showcase a program and what they have accomplished in the past school year. There is a travel stipend available to chapters who bring down a chapter display.
- State Fair Project Show - This event is similar to the JAM show seen at State Convention and plans to showcase projects from across the state. Please note that this project show is open to all shop programs at this point in time so please share this with any Tech-Ed or Industrial Arts teachers that you work with. More details for this will come out shortly as we work with our judges.
- FFA CDE's that are available to compete in.
- Nursery and Landscape CDE - This CDE is being put on by Forde Nursery in Great Falls and the entire competition will happen in the FFA barn at the Fair Grounds.
- Soil Evaluation - This is a great competition for any groups/ individuals interested in pursuing natural resources and range management. This event will take place offsite at a different location each year with 3 different soil pits being provided for students to judge.
- Livestock Evaluation - There will be 4 - 6 livestock classes to judge at this competition which will include beef, goat, sheep, and swine. More details will be released in closer to July when animals are locked in. In this competition there will be a 4-H section and a FFA section as well.
- Range Evaluation - Think of this event like a miniature Range Days that takes only a morning to complete. This event happens off site at a Range area that has been dedicated for this particular competition.
- New Horizons Speaking Competition - This event happens on the last day at the FFA Barn and is open to extemporaneous speeches as well as prepared public speeches.
- Agronomy - This event will take place in the FFA Barn and more information will be released soon.
- Vet Science - This event will take place in the FFA Barn and more information will be released soon.
- Mechanics - This event will take place in the FFA Barn and more information will be released soon.
Please note that for most of the events listed above prizes, ribbons, and/or premium money will be awarded to the top placing individuals and teams (chapter). As a result, please make sure that students know their basic information as there will be some forms to fill out if they receive money. Also please make sure that you have the basic information for your chapter and school in order to receive money if you are putting in for the travel stipend with the displays or happen to win an event as a team.
There are sign-ups on judging card now for all of the events so please make sure to make plans to come-up with your chapter. I am hoping to have a good preliminary number to give to the State Fair Superintendent director by the end of June.
