Hello Advisors,
We are about two weeks away from the Montana State Fair and I wanted to make sure that a schedule and additional information was sent out. Please refer to the attachment (2026 Premium Book) with this email for a schedule. Most sign-ups are on Judging Card, and the Chapter Display and Project Show sign-ups are on google forms. I will include those links with this email at the bottom as well.
For Livestock Evaluation, competitors will check-in and gather at the FFA Barn in the stands. Once the competition starts, they will be taken down to the Yellow Livestock Pavillion where the animals are located. This year we have 6 classes planned with 2 sets of reasons. For the classes we are looking at having a Heifer class, Steer class, Sheep class (Market or Repro), 2 Swine classes, and a Market Goat class. For Nursery and Landscape there will be live plants provided by Forde Nursery this year for the ID section, a general test, and a practicum. The practicum will be done on propagation with plant cuttings using rooting hormone. For any questions, please reach out to Sara Park at sara.c...@gmail.com. For Range and Soils, they will be happening together off-site Wednesday morning while it is still cooler out. Please note that advisors are responsible for getting their students to the site and brought back again. Students can expect written tests for both events, soils pits with evaluation forms, and plant id for the range. We will provide location materials at the barn at the time of the event as the group will need to travel with the event coordinators. For Speaking competitions, Mechanics, Agronomy, and Veterinary Science they will be run like last year with a written test and ID for each. For any questions regarding these events please reach out to Devin McClayland at devin.mc...@conradschools.org.
For the Montana State Fair Project show we can either have the projects sit on display throughout the longevity of fair or be there only for the days project show. If you want to drop off the project for the entire fair, please drop the project off on Friday July 24th or Saturday July 25th with pick-up scheduled for Saturday, August 1st after 4:00 PM. If the project is only going to be there for the dates of the Project show it will need to be in Tuesday July 28th before 10:00 am and will be able to go home after Wednesday afternoon. Good Afternoon,
Propagating Nursery Stock — Each participant will be furnished stock plant material, rooting flat and media, rooting hormone, a hand pruner, a label and marking pen. (Personal propagating knives or pruners are allowed, if desired.) Participants are to prepare the designated softwood cuttings and place them in the media with a single label.
The schedule posted with the premium is the 2026 schedule. Unfortunately, an incorrect date made past our proofreading. I am going to include an abbreviated schedule here with dates.
Friday, July 24th and Saturday July 25th 8:00 am - 8:00 pm Set-up chapter displays and bring in animals
8:00 am - 8:00 pm Project Show Items can be checked in if staying for whole fair
Monday, July 27th 10:00 am - 8:00 pm Project Show items are able to be checked in
Tuesday, July 28th 8:00 am - 11:00 am Project Show items are able to be checked in (Last chance)
10:00 am - 3:00 pm Nursery and Landscape CDE (should only take a student two hours once started)
1:00 pm - 3:00 pm Project Show is Judged
1:00 pm - 3:00 pm Mechanics, Agronomy, and Vet Science CDE
4:00 pm - 7:00 pm Livestock Evaluation CDE
Wednesday July 29th 8:30 am - 11:30 am Soils and Range (Offsite, gather everyone at FFA barn and then follow Milford Wearly to site)
9:00 am - Noon New Horizons Speaking Competition
1:30 pm Awards
Saturday August 1st 5:00 pm Entries Released and Project Show items that stayed through duration of fair

An official will observe and score each participant during the application of the practicum. Following completion of the assigned practicum the official will ask questions regarding the propagation or potting activity. Scoring criteria are listed on the respective scorecards.
