Hello Everyone,

It has been a while since our last community update, and a lot of work has been going on in the background which I am excited to share with you.

Welcoming New Governance Members

As our community has grown the task of helping to guide the development of the WDL language has also grown. To help with this work, I am thrilled to announce three new members joining the Governance Committee! Each new member has made substantial contributions to the WDL language and broader community.

Please join me in welcoming:
  • Ruben Vorderman (BioWDL)
  • Amy Paguirigan (Fred Hutch)
  • Michael Franklin (Australian Centre for Population Genomics)
Quarterly Meetings

Starting in the new year we will be aiming to have quarterly meetings to focus on furthering the WDL roadmap. In order to facilitate our global audience, we will strive to have 2 EU/AUS friendly meetings and 2 EST meetings alternating between the two. These meetings will be open to all community members and we encourage your participation.

The meetings have yet to be scheduled, but please keep an eye on your email for a future invitation.

Roadmap and Feature Inclusion

At a recent Governance meeting, we have made the decision to aim for a 1.2 release of WDL instead of jumping straight to 2.0. While 2.0 would bring with it some much anticipated features, we have decided to ease the transition on both users and engine implementers and try to fit as many non breaking changes as makes sense into 1.2.

The exact feature set of 1.2 has not been decided as of yet. I would encourage everyone to visit the phenomenal breakdown by John Didion below to discuss the features that should be included

Thank you everyone for your continued contributions!

Take care and stay safe
