Having just filled out a survey with them, I noted that Linux Australia is a large organisation that loves helping out open source here. They also hold and support some pretty good conferences.
If we ever need logistical or even financial support or resources, they would welcome receiving a grant request for support, as long as its for anything concrete.
For instance, AFAIK they've approved a request for financial support for barCampMelbourne -

So if anyone had any current plans on doing something cool but needed some moolah we don't have, just wanted to tell you guys about this option.
One possible possible idea could be to ask for them a grant for a set of arduinos or Rpi's. They could be owned by OTSMelb and effectively lent to workshop participants for a workshop;
and we could casually onsell them (at cost) if any participants wanted to keep one, and repurchase new ones as needed. Not exactly sure about legality of warranties for doing such a thing, but
as long as we're not purposely trying to act as a retailer... anyway that's only one idea.
We could also think about asking for support to create advertising and branding material.
Cheers, Matt
