Hi everyone,

Shall we have a June workshop? Anyone have a preferred Saturday out of
June 21 and June 28?

We haven't done Flask since April last year. Or I know Lilly has been
talking to the organisers of the Open Science Workshop[1] with an
event on June 19, we could try and choose something that links in
somehow.

Anyone have a preference either way? Availability? Suggesting Flask on
June 28 as a "default" preference, but flexible on all points.

I'm available on the 28th. Got pulled into a yoga thing in Castlemaine for the 21st...

The Open Science Workshop is in July, so we don't need to link our workshop in this month. Flask seems like a good idea! Maybe we could think about running the Git workshop next month. I'm unavailable on the 28th, but free on the 29th if Sunday workshops are an option. (This is not to say that you can't go ahead without me on the 28th - I haven't had much experience with Flask so may not be the best coach.)

Sunday workshops should be an option. I can make the 29th. Steven?
Anyone else?

Actually, the thing I was doing on the 28th has been cancelled, so I can make it along now.

I just asked Nick@EW about the 28th as we had 3 of us, but it's
unfortunately already taken for a WordPress workshop. Damn organised
WordPress trainers! (j/k)

Confirmed available options are Sun 29th June or Sat 5th
July. Preferences?

PS People reading this via the list may notice some missing emails, as
mine are being flagged in the spam queue and I deleted a couple that
were now redundant. Not sure why Google has suddenly decided to flag
mine, I think because I'm sending via my non-gmail non-OTS SMTP
server.

I've sent an email to YBF asking them if they'd be able to host us for the 28th.

Otherwise the dates should be fine for me.

We've taught the Flask & HTML workshops the least so far; othewise, we've never tried the European's Github workshop

Might not have mentioned it on email but from what I've heard in the Learners Meetups we've held there are also always plenty
of people looking for introductions to programming as well.

Technically regarding your SMTP server, might want to check you have DKIM set up or that your SPF records for your SMTP setup are correct, if you haven't done so already.

Thanks Matt, that's excellent. Let's make a call on Tuesday so we have
enough time to announce. If York Butter Factory is available then 28th
otherwise 29th.

If they offer, can you also please find out how many desks would be
available so we can scale the meetup? IIRC it's a bit smaller than
Electron Workshop.

Has anyone been working thorugh workshop material in the learner's
meetups yet?

I have SPF configured, but what I'm doing at the moment is in
violation of what those tools verify - my personal SMTP server is
sending mail from an opentechschool.org address. To verify with DKIM
or SPF I'd need control of the opentechschool signing key or the
opentechschool DNS, respectively.

The actual cause seems to be a bit more mundane though. My membership
on this list predates my OTS email account, so I was subscribed via my
personal account not this one. Even though I could administer the
group from my OTS account! I just "joined" the group from inside my
OTS account, which will hopefully fix the problem.

Hi Matt,

Any word from our Buttermaking friends? If not then I'll confirm with Nick today for the 29th, as time is getting short.

PS Regarding the continued saga of my emails, apologies to the other mailing list admins who are probably also getting redundant spam notifications. It seems like the "Always Allow" button isn't working, and also the spam filter is emailing admins about messages that were approved days ago. I'm suffering the indignity of posting via the web interface until I find the time to configure a better solution.

Yes, I did hear word back from them.

Hi Matthew,

Thanks for getting in touch!

The Tech School sounds like a great initiative - we’re always happy to see how we can help out in terms of space.

June 28 looks clear on our end - I’ve CC’d Sahand Bagheri (YBF’s Community Manager) to help assist with coordinating the event.

Any questions, do let one of us know!

Thanks
Jason
I haven't heard back from Sahand yet though. I might send another email. I did mention our workshops run a ballpark 20-40 people and they had no comment, so I'm pretty sure they're fine for space.

Hi Matt,

Thanks for passing this on. I'm not sure if this constitutes a
confirmation or not... I'm guessing not really until you hear from
Sahand? What do you think?

Wednesday is almost over so I guess we leave it another day? Don't
really want to leave it any longer than tomorrow though, as late
notice sessions have proven hard to fill before.

I've asked Nick to lock in the 29th for the next workshop. After he
confirms I'll get it up on Meetup.

Matt, if you're keen to try YBF then maybe we can line it up for next
month?

Thanks Matt for your efforts with YBF. Sorry for any frustration over
it not working out in the end.

Howdy all,

I have been bedridden thanks to illness for the past few days and don't think I'll be able to make it to the workshop this weekend :(

If anyone wants to bake some cookies this is the recipe I use (but with about 2/3 the sugar): http://allrecipes.com/recipe/best-chocolate-chip-cookies/detail.aspx?src=VD_Summary
