Hi everyone,
Electron Workshop has been a great host for OTS Melbourne. They're
currently concerned about a planning application for a large apartment
block next door, and the potential impact the on their business from
heavy construction. They're not looking to stop the development, but
they want to ensure it proceeds in a way that causes minimal
disruption.
As part of their community, they've asked us to help by submitting an
objection to the council encouraging them to facilitate an amicable
arrangement:

There's a form letter at the link above. I wrote a slightly altered
version to specifically mention OTS, I've pasted mine in below.
Please help them out by making a submission as well.

I am writing to object to the planning application for 33-35 Arden St, North Melbourne. It is my belief that the construction of a four storey residential complex & underground car parking lot may adversely affect Electron Workshop, a space that our community organisation OpenTechSchool regularly uses to host free technology workshops.
My objections include:
1) Unusable work space due to heavy construction noise.
2) Loss of natural light within the space by building over west facing windows.
3) Possible loss of a space for our community group to hold workshops, due to the inability for Electron Workshop to survive a significant loss of business.
In the last 14 months we have provided an estimated 200 attendees with free technology education at Electron Workshop space. It is an invaluable resource for us, and we are only one of several community groups who make use of it.
We would very much appreciate if the Melbourne City Council could work together with Electron Workshop and the developers at 33-35 Arden St to facilitate an arrangement that allows community activities like our own to continue without disruption.
