I wanted to ask you what you think / the policy is with sponsors in OTS events. I was just having a meeting with Moped Labs and they were asking me about designers to cover a position in their office (they have to be able to lead a product design and have mobile experience) and I offered them to visit the UI/UX meetup so they can contact more people, but I was wondering to which extent we can announce open positions in the meetups without turning it into a place where corporations prey on designers/devs to the point it gets annoying.

They were also interested in sponsoring beers / drinks / whatever in some hackathon or event, but I'm not sure how having a sponsor collides or not with OTS principles.

Any thoughts? We could share this widely with other OTS branches. I didn't want to spam.

Hey Javi,

When ever there is the request why
Whether we could promote something for someone, the person this request received goes through our Promotion-Handbook ( http://www.opentechschool.org/handbooks/promotion.html ) to device if we do promote it or not. If it is unclear, we push it to the local team mailinglist and ask for +1/-1 until we have a majority voting. So much about the process for promoting using our media channels.

On sponsorship we do not yet any handbook as we had only very few tonnes to decide this. But generally we do accept sponsorship of drinks and pizza for the participants during workshops and the venues we hold them are also sponsored. What we offer in exchange is that they are thanked for that publicly, usually at the event and/or on social media channels. We do not give speaker slots, nor any space for customised messages or advertisements and they are also not included in choosing the content.

That said there is currently no way for any sponsor to talk about their job offerings in any event including the meetup style events (aside from in face to face at socialising) and IMHO that is a good thing. For us it is more important to stay independent and create great events than pleasing sponsors. Of course if they want to offer their space or pay for food and drinks at the next ui/ux thing that'd be great and I'm happy to sorry out the details with them. What I'd recommend is sponsoring hackNtell and talk about their offerings in the flea-market stefan offers before the break.

Did that help or are you m more confused than before ;) ?
Best
