Hi All,

Some of you may know about work going on in the IETF creating a CBOR-compressed certificate format (draft-ietf-cose-cbor-encoded-20). Having spent considerable time implementing SSL on constrained networks, it would be nice if transporting small certificate formats during SSL connection establishment could be used on these constrained networks, especially when long cert chains have to be transported. At some point, I was thinking the openssl library could be modified to support the SSL exchange of certificates that are CBOR encoded. This could be accomplished by a financial contribution to the OpenSSL organization, or possibly using prototype code that I was working on recently, I was just trying to avoid duplicated work.

Does this sound interesting, or possibly valuable to the OpenSSL roadmap?

Thanks!
James Turner
