Dear all,

I think that I have successfully installed OMEC in a Openstack with the separation of VMs that you recommend. However, I don't have the 10Gbit interfaces, the S1U and SGI are normal virtio interfaces and I have used the DPDK driver to be able to start the Data Plane machine correctly. When all the processes start without any error, I start a OAI ENB-UE machine that I have installed and tested with others EPC. The ENB attach and the UE attach was made successfully, but I can't make ping from the simulated UE to the SGI interface or the server that I am using as the connection to the SGI.

After using the kni_ifcfg and bring up the interfaces that the KNI Module told me, the result is the same. I can see the interfaces as a normal interfaces with ifconfig but a ping between the machines is not possible (S1U to ENB) or (SGI to Server). This behavior is because the DPDK or it is not normal?

Should I do something else? Or because of the virtio interface in the SGI and S1U, I can't make a complete attach.

Thanks for your help,

Jairo Mejia

Hello,

Disable port security on S1U and SGI port and then retry.

Thanks,

Hi, Jairo,
Based on what Amit said, also check :
The UE should be able ping the server(" that I am using as the connection to the SGI").
do a wirewhark on the  server , check whether ping requests come?
normally we need to add a route on the server, the route is about to reach UE subnet via SGI ip on spgwu.

Jairo,

Also, If not already done, unload the rte_kni module and then load rte_kni.ko with “carrier=on” option. Then restart dataplane.

Dear all,

Thank you for your fast response with my problems. At this moment, I am working to test the solutions that you have suggested. However, I have thought in the Port Security a long time ago and it was not the problem. Right now I am making captures of the signal to know how it is working the S1U interface.

The Somnath's solution I haven't used it yet because I need to understand better the DPDK module for this project (It is the first time that I am working with DPDK) and I found this OpenStack with DPDK. I think that the problem that I am facing is outside the machines and I found this link in my research. Should I install ovs-dpdk in Openstack to could work with the DPDK inside of the instances? Sorry if this is a dummy question but as I said, it is the first time with this technology,

Thank you all for your time and I hope you can help me,

Jairo Mejia

Hi all,

No one of the solutions works. I think that the problem is that I can't ping with the other machines, which I found mandatory to be able to make a further connection. When I am using the DPDK driver with the KNI Module, I lost any connection with those interfaces from the outside. I made a capture of the S1U Interface when I am trying to ping to the interface and from the interface and I can just see ARP packages that are asking where is the interface that I am making ping, but there is any of the ICMP packages.

Thanks for your time
